Good Morning America’s Robin Roberts helped WAPT provide vital aid to tornado victims in  Mississippi, her home state.

The local TV station winners and finalists of the 2022 Investigative Reporters & Editors (IRE) Awards have been released and include nine stations from around the country.

Matt Laubhan, chief meteorologist at WTVA Tupelo, Miss.,  knew he was seeing a killer tornado. “At that moment, viewers needed somebody to hold their hand and get them through it,” he says.

Last week, the Fort Lauderdale area received more than 2 feet of rain within a 12 hours. During the height of the storm, WSVN in Miami delivered 61% of viewers, according to the station.

WIVB in Buffalo, N.Y., was the top-ranked local TV news in all dayparts, according to Nielsen’s February 2023 sweeps results. “We want our viewers to see an accurate picture of Buffalo when they consume our news- both good and what needs to be fixed. That approach is really resonating,” says Joe Abouzeid, WIVB’s general manager.

The clothing drive resulted in over 4,000 items of clothing collected, a total a Cara Collective official described as “a monumental feat!”

WAVE in Louisville produced a documentary that took advantage of the hoopla surrounding the fictional movie, Cocaine Bear. In the incredible true story WAVE tells, the bear isn’t even the main character.
