The Gray Media Training Center program at WLBT gives hands-on training to college students while learning best practices for a career in broadcast and digital journalism.

Today, March 31, WLBT, the NBC affiliate in Jackson, Miss., and its parent company, Gray Television, are hosting  Gray Day of Giving, a televised donation relief drive following devastating tornadoes in the Mississippi Delta.

New jobs posted to TVNewsCheck’s Media Job Center include openings for a general sales manager; an assistant chief engineer; a multimedia journalist; a sales account executive; a producer and reporter to work remotely on a new national daily news magazine; and a weekend anchor/reporter.

WLBT, Gray’s NBC affiliate in Jackson, Miss., announces that Michael A. White, Jr. will be the director of operations for the Gray/WLBT Media Training Center, launching later this year. The center will educate and train students who attend Mississippi colleges and universities, with a focus on Historically Black Colleges and Universities in the state.

The studio, designed by FX Design Group, is equipped with three unique story telling video walls to provide viewers with easy-to-read graphics which are made up of over 41 individual video monitors.

“We don’t do what we do to get awards, but it sure feels good when other people take notice and recognize our time, energy and efforts to tell great stories and make a difference,” says Ted Fortenberry, WBLT’s GM.
