Why? Because tomorrow, upwards of 20,000 sheltered pets could be leaving their current digs for a new home, and life, with loving families all over the country.
All day tomorrow, it’s time again for The Clear the Shelters initiative, the pet adoption effort by NBC and Telemundo local television stations across the country to find permanent and loving homes for sheltered pets.
Last year, Clear the Shelters, partnered with hundreds of animal shelters all across the country, finding new homes for nearly 20,000 animals.
“We were very happy with that number,” said Valari Staab, NBCUniversal Owned television stations president, who admits that Clear the Shelter is her pet project.
“We did empty several shelters. And there were great stories of shelter dogs that had been in the shelter for 2 or 3 years that finely found homes. It really showed what we can do when we marshal the resources of both Telemundo and NBC stations.”
Many of the participating animal shelters are waiving or significantly reducing adoption fees.
While the vast majority of the adopted animals were cats and dogs, other pets like rabbits, hamsters, hedgehogs, turtles, ferrets, monkeys, donkeys, lizards, cows and pigs also found new homes.
