KSBW, Hearst’s NBC affiliate in Salinas, Calif., was honored with a regional Emmy Award for Outstanding Achievement: Newscast in the small market category by The San Francisco/Northern California Chapter of The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.
It was KSBW’s news coverage of the Soberanes wildfire in July 2016 that earned it the award.
The Soberanes wildfire lasted 82 days and burned more than 130,000 acres in the Los Pardes National Forest with over 5,000 firefighters deployed during its peak.
“Our daily focus at KSBW is not driven by whether-or-not we will win an award, but to provide the best coverage of local stories that matter to Central Coast news viewers” said Lawton Dodd, KSBW’s news director.
