Happy Cinco De Mayo! Although today it’s observed as a celebration of Mexican heritage and pride, it originally was a day to commemorate freedom and democracy in Mexican-American communities in the American West during the first years of the Civil War.
KIII, the ABC affiliate in Corpus Christi, in south Texas along the coast just a couple hours north of the Mexican border, celebrated Cinco De Mayo in a special way yesterday by airing a two-hour edition of Domingo Live! that marked the show’s 50 years of broadcasting.

“The two-hour special is a historical look at the evolution of the station,” says Rudy Treviño, KIII anchor and current co-host of Domingo Live!, which the station says is the longest running, locally-produced “live” music program in the country.
“It’s about being in touch with our community and why our viewers tune us in every Sunday morning to continue this South Texas tradition,” adds Treviño.
“It’s a great opportunity to showcase the history of the program that celebrates the culture, music and community events of the entire Coastal Bend,” saysDan Robbins, KIII VP0GM.
Here are a few of examples of the bands that have played on Domingo Live!
