Years ago, in the old days, way back when, in other words, when I was a kid, the school year didn’t start until after Labor Day.

Down in the Hampton Roads area, WAVY, the Lin-owned NBC affiliate in Portsmouth, Va., is kicking off Operation School Supplies this week.
School supplies are collected and donated to children in need throughout 24 school districts. Residents can drop off their supplies at designated locations throughout the area.
Operation School Supplies is a partnership between WAVY and The Hampton Roads Show, Farm Fresh, AAA Tidewater, Cinema Café and 757 Eat the Streets.
