It’s that magical time of year, the November sweeps are over and that festive time is just ahead.
The POPs (proof of performance) spots are made and airing, the press releases spinning the ratings have been written and sent.
Now it’s time to answer the annual conundrum all TV stations face every year when making their annual holiday promos. How do I get all the on-air talent in the promo? What am I going to put on the log to air in all that unsold inventory over the holidays? And is it Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays?
Holiday greeting to you all. As the Fonz once said, I hope you all have a Cool Yule. Here’s one spot from Don Smith and his staff at KOVR, the CBS O&O in Sacramento, Calif., that I thought was original, inventive and fun.
Here are some other holiday spots I found around the web including one from WWE, the wrestling channel.
I’ve had my challenges coming up with something creative to air that says Happy Holidays from the station. One year at WINK, the CBS affiliate in Fort Myers, Fla., I had this idea of using old home movies showing iconic images people associate with the holidays and intersperse pictures of our talent from when they were kids into it. The audio would be classic holiday songs, since WINK also owned radio stations in the market. Here’s one example from the campaign.
So what is your station doing on-air to share the holiday spirit? Send me your station holiday spots from any year to share by emailing me the online link or a small file version I can post online.
