Schools and banks are closed today, but not TV stations. They never close. So here’s some Saturday Night Live humor for your Monday morning.
This week’s Saturday Night Live takes some time to recognize and lampoon Martin Luther King Jr. and the holiday set aside today in his honor, and race relations in general. Kevin Hart is the special guest.
On a serious note, I read Martin Luther King Jr.’s Letter from a Birmingham Jail when I was in high school in the mid-1960s. It made a profound impression on me.
King was imprisoned there in 1963 as a participant in nonviolent protests against segregation. In the letter, King responds to southern religious leaders who labeled his activities as “unwise” and “untimely.” There are many powerful statements in the letter, including one of my favorite quotes: “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.”
