Long-time TV production pro Pete Barrett is headed about 5 hours east from Kansas City to Champaign, Illinois to head up production at the Nexstar-owned CBS affiliate there, WCIA.
I’ve known Pete since our days serving as members on the CBS Affiliate Advisory Caucus, where Pete was president, way back in the early 90s, as in 1990s.
In his career, Pete, a 4-time Emmy Award winner, has been the Director of Marketing, Production, and Programming for KCTV in KC, and most recently ran his own production company. Pete’s also spent time in the footlights, acting on stage, screen and TV.
“WCIA is a powerhouse in central Illinois,” says Barrett, “and has made a very strong commitment to local programming, which has always been a passion of mine.”
Barrett joins veteran creative services director, Peter Carlson, at WCIA.
Nestled between Chicago and St. Louis, Champaign is home to two major institutes of higher learning, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and Parkland College.
In 2013, Champaign was rated fifth as one of the best places to live in the US for a healthy work-life balance.
Congrats to Pete and WCIA. Keep us posted, Pete.
