The February ratings period ended this week and you can see some local media coverage of some of the results in larger markets posted on TVNewsCheck. Results in medium and smaller markets will come shortly.
Any time there is a measurable change in local news viewing, that’s interesting to me. Although it’s difficult to attribute any news ratings growth directly to marketing, we have to believe it can play a role.
So maybe your station has a ratings story to share.
Your morning news is up over last year. Your late news has grown audience or your evening news is showing an increase. Maybe your station targeted one night particular night during the week to hold that prime lead-in, and it seems to have worked. Perhaps it was a digital media buy that seems to have gotten some results.
Or perhaps you did something with your station’s Facebook page and that seems to have worked in your favor.
Maybe you launched a new news image campaign before February and you think that played a role.
If you’re a CBS affiliate, maybe you devised a plan to retain that late prime entertainment program audience into your late news, and there’s an indication it worked. Or you focused on the afternoon syndicated programming leading into your afternoon news and has some success.
Many of you send press releases about your station’s performance in February. That’s fine, but I’m looking for something more specific.
I’m tracking down a few stories about ratings changes in several markets and hope to share those with you in the next few weeks.
Feel free to call me or email me with any information about ratings changes in your market, and for that matter, any changes in your station’s marketing you want me to highlight and share.
