Both men and women compete on a 1,000-mile course over some of the most inhospitable terrain and in some of the severest cold weather on the planet.
Not by car, not by bike, not on foot. But by sled, pulled by dogs.
The questions is, why?
It’s time for the Iditarod, known at the Last Great Race on the Planet.
And that’s the question the Sportsman Channel asks tonight when it airs two half-hour specials back-to-back starting at 9 p.m. ET: Why Do They Run? and Why Do They Mush?
Viewers get a front-row seat into the lives of the sled dogs and mushers, how they train and what drives them to compete in the yearly endurance test.
Seventy-nine teams are vying to claim this year’s championship title.
On Saturday, March 28, at 4 p.m. ET, Sportsman Channel will carry a four-hour block of marathon Iditarod programming including the March to Nome (Parts 1 & 2).
Sportsman Channel’s coverage culminates on Thursday, April 2, at 8 p.m. ET with a two-hour special dedicated to highlighting the 2015 Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race.
