Lots of TV stations tout the merits of their helicopter, and some daring rescues have been caught by cameras from TV station choppers.
But for one TV station in Cleveland, it was an airboat that came to the rescue. And luckily, a TV news cameraman was there rolling on the whole incident.
Concerned residents say they’d been watching the dog, a young black Lab, for days. The dog was trapped out on the ice of Lake Erie.
The Coast Guard and Bay Village Fire and Rescue attempted to rescue the dog earlier but it ran from them.
The Coast Guard said it was too difficult for a rescue by air, so WKYC, the Gannett-owned NBC affiliate in Cleveland, partnered up with Air1Airboats, a company that provides air boat tours and ice fishing excursions, to take a trip out on the ice to look for the dog and hopefully, rescue it.
WKYC reporter Mike O’Mara and cameraman George Payamgis were on the airboat to document what happened.
Local animal lovers, including Friendship Animal Protective League Executive Director Greg Willey and Lorain police officer Rick Broz were also on board to assist.
This will make your day.
