When it comes to riveting news stories, nothing can beat a sailor surviving 66 days alone and adrift at sea, in my opinion.
I have a fascination with rough seas, ships sailing and sinking and people surviving shipwrecks. So when I saw that a shipwrecked sailor who had been adrift at sea for 66 days was rescued, I wanted to hear from him.
So today, while cruising Facebook, I saw that WTKR, the CBS affiliate in Norfolk, Va., had a video of an interview with him, which I thought was terrific.
In that interview, he talked about finding and eating tiny crabs that he discovered in some seaweed. I called the station to find out more, but they told me that they did not conduct the interview.
I went to CNN. Found their version, which showed no mention of his finding the crabs. And the reporter summarized some of the sailor’s life-saving efforts when I would have preferred to have heard him in his own words.
Then I went to WAVY’s website, the NBC affiliate in Norfolk, which also had bits and pieces of him recounting his experiences including a recording of a phone call the sailor had with his dad after being rescued.
Here’s a version from ABC News.
If anyone out there can point me toward the complete interview with the sailor, I’d appreciate it.
