KDFW set the Guinness World Record for most amount of paper collected in a 24-hour period this past Saturday at KDFW’s fifth annual Shred Day DFW, sponsored by Comerica Bank and Iron Mountain.
The news team at KDFW, the Fox O&O in Dallas, did their part to help the station set the record.
They collected their nightly news scripts over a 10-day period to fill 10 bins.
I don’t know what those 10 bins weighed, but the station collected more than 459,300 pounds or 230 tons of paper to break the Guinness World Record by nearly 15 tons.
The one-day event helps North Texans shred documents for free to prevent identity theft and raise awareness of recycling.
A row of cars greeted volunteers from Comerica Bank at the Comerica Service Center at 6 a.m., an hour before it even started.
Non-perishable food donations were also collected for the North Texas Food Bank.
