This weekend, 40,000 people are expected at MetLife Stadium, home of the New York Giants football team.
They’re not there to watch an NFL game, but they’ll be able to see a few Giants players on the field. All in the name of health and fitness.
WNBC, NBC’s O&O in New York is partnering and hosting with NBC-owned Telemundo affil WNJU for the third annual NBC 4 New York & Telemundo 47 Health & Fitness Expo. The expo coincides with the New Jersey State Fair, which will also be happening on the grounds of the stadium.
Attendees will be given access to the field and locker rooms, as well as getting free health screenings.
“People get a kick out of taking a selfie on the 50-yard line,” says Missy Crawford, WNBC’s creative services director.
There will be free parking, the June 27-28 event is free and the stations are encouraging people to bring the whole family.
In addition to a whole host of activities, the news talent from both WNBC and Telemundo 47 will be on hand to meet and greet with the crowd, not an easy task when you expect 40,000 people.
“Just because we’re in the No. 1 market in the world,” says Crawford, “doesn’t mean our viewers can’t have a personal connection with our talent. We don’t get to meet our viewers everyday so it’s really neat to shake their hands and see how excited they are about our product. Their faces light up, our anchors enjoy meeting them.”
WNBC’s lead sportscaster Bruce Beck joins New York Giants’ player Steve Weatherford to co-host the expo. Other New York Giants players are expected to attend as well.
“As someone who has a lifelong commitment to leading a healthy lifestyle, it is my pleasure to once again co-host,” says Weatherford.
“We have the potential to change lives, to emphasize the value of fitness and inspire a healthier community.”
The Health & Fitness Expo offers an extensive lineup of events and exhibits through the stadium, ranging from tests and screenings to fitness and safety activities.
“Obviously, we’re here to represent the community,” says Crawford.
“Free health screenings, meet our talent. Totally free fun for everyone.”
