WVUE, the Fox affiliate in New Orleans, took home three 2015 National Edward R. Murrow Awards for excellence in journalism in the Small Market Television category. The station is owned by Louisiana Media Co., and operated by Raycom Media through a shared services agreement.
WVUE is no stranger to winning Murrow awards. This is the fourth consecutive year the station has won multiple National Murrow Awards and its 10th National Murrow since 2011.
“This recognition is rewarding,” says Mikel Schaefer, WVUE’s news director, “for the hard work our staff puts in while serving the viewers of Southeast Louisiana and Mississippi.”
WVUE won the National Murrow in the “Newscast” category for its 10 p.m. newscast that aired the day former New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin was convicted on federal corruption charges.
WVUE won the National Murrow in the “Investigative Reporting” category for its multi-year investigation with NOLA.com/The Times Picayune, Louisiana Purchased.
The investigation focused on the state’s complex campaign finance system, which launched state and federal investigations, changed state law and forced politicians to pay back improperly and possible illegally spent money.
WVUE won the National Murrow in the “News Series” category for its Holding Officials Accountable that uncovered questionable spending of hundreds of thousands in taxpayer dollars. It, too, launched federal and state investigations that led to corruption charges.
