Unlike children, VO announcers are usually heard and not seen.
Their voice is their persona. It is distinctive, recognizable, unique.
But sometimes, an announcer can go from behind the microphone to in front of the camera.
Or in the case of Marc Preston, go from in front of the camera to behind the mic.
Marc Preston has been a voice-over announcer for more than 20 years. Every day, his voice can be heard on broadcast networks, TV stations and advertising campaigns in millions of homes.
“As a promo, commercial and narration voice,” says Preston, “I’m fortunate to work with numerous creative pros. However, my dance card is always open for new collaborations.”
Preston’s recently signed as the voice of WZZM Grand Rapids, Mich.
But Preston got his first acting gig thirty years ago when he appeared in an episode of ABC’s Movie of the Week. That began a life-long passion for performance.
And last week, Preston had a role in ABC’s Astronaut Wives Club.
“I get to head back to the early ’60s and have a few scenes with some fine thespians,” says Preston.
“I might or might not be recognizable, as wardrobe and makeup worked a few miracles, but you should recognize my voice.”
I recognized him and his voice. He plays a reporter of all things and his scene takes place within the first few minutes of the show.
By the way, this show looks pretty cool especially for those who like the music, the fashions, the cars and the history of the 1960s.
