WLWT, the Hearst-owned NBC affiliate in Cincinnati, was given the Special Achievement Emmy Award for News Excellence at the 51st Ohio Valley Emmy Awards last month.
It was the first time a station from Cincinnati ever won the award.
The Ohio Valley regional awards cover four states — Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana and West Virginia — and includes markets such as Columbus, Dayton, Louisville and Lexington, to name just a few.
“This award confirms the work the WLWT News 5 team is doing, and the direction WLWT is headed” said Richard Dyer, WLWT’s general manager.
“We have an awesome duty and responsibility to serve the public. But more importantly, to fulfill the First Amendment, and protect it and defend it every day” said Mike Neelly, WLWT’s news director.
In addition, WLWT received an Emmy Award for its promotional campaign, The Cincinnati
Way.
