For 32 years, less fortunate children and adults in the Ohio Valley area around Dayton, Ohio, have been kept just a little warmer during the winter thanks to WDTN and its sponsors.
When WDTN, Media General’s NBC affiliate, started its annual Coats for Kids campaign, Ronald Reagan was president, the average annual income was $20,000, and the movie, The Big Chill, was all the rage.
Since then, the station has collected, cleaned and given away close to 500,000 coats and other winter items.
Today, WDTN and WDBT, Dayton’s CW affil, start collecting coats and winter accessories for this year’s Coats for Kids.
“As the weather gets a little colder, we’re reminded of the need that still exists in the Miami Valley,” says Joe Abouzeid, WDTN’s general manager. “The fact is there are kids in our community who have a very basic need.”
Corporate sponsors for the campaign include LCNB National Bank, Tim Hortons, St. Vincent de Paul, Cintas Corporation and RUSH Transportation and Logistics.
