Parts of the Carolinas are still struggling with the aftermath of historic rainfall totals this past week.
Dams have breached and many flooded rivers have not yet crested. Sixteen people have died, thousands of homes were destroyed and many residents are living in shelters.
Hearst’s NBC affiliate WYFF Greenville, S.C., and the Red Cross of Upstate South Carolina are partnering today on a telethon to raise funds to assist disaster relief efforts.
“The images from around our state are heartbreaking,” said John Soapes, WTFF’s general manager, “and WYFF 4 feels the need to do something to provide relief to the people who are suffering.”

The telethon began at 4:40 this morning on WYFF and will continue throughout the day as the station continues coverage of the flooding.
WYFF will air a one-hour special tonight at 7 to provide more coverage of the storm, its aftermath and relief efforts.
