KUSA, the NBC affiliate in Denver owned by Tegna, and volunteers across the state, collected more than 328,000 pounds of food (that’s 164 tons!), $82,000, and truckloads of clothing and toys for its 9CaresColorado Shares food drive.
This is the 33rd year KUSA has conducted the drive.
“We’ve been doing this for a long time,” said Mark Cornetta, KUSA’s general manager, “and every year, just before the holidays, we see the genuine spirit of giving in the generosity of Coloradans everywhere. Those donations are going to make things a lot better for a lot of people in need across our state.”
KUSA believes that items donated in a community should stay in that community.
Food collected in the Denver metro area is now being sorted by volunteers at Food Bank of the Rockies and will be distributed to the more than 100 food banks.
