What started as a bachelor pad for George Vanderbilt, (yes, that Vanderbilt family, which counts Anderson Cooper as a member), The Biltmore in Ashville, N.C, has 250 rooms, 43 bathrooms and three kitchens. There are also 65 fireplaces, an indoor pool and a bowling alley.
It is still owned by the family that built it a century ago and is the largest private family home in America.
WYFF, the Hearst-owned NBC affiliate covering the Greenville-Spartanburg-Anderson-Asheville market, spent a year producing a one-hour special covering the vast estate.
The special will air tonight at 7 on WYFF’s Chronicle: Biltmore.
Jane Robelot takes viewers on a tour of the house and gardens, and the estate’s offerings like hotels, restaurants and a variety of activities.
The episode will be streamed on WYFF’s Chronicle page of its website after it airs on television.
