Money, food and toys donated by people in the Monterey-Salinas-Santa Cruz, Calif., market set new records of generosity for this year’s KSBW Share Your Holiday.
The annual one-day broadcast fundraiser, now in its 29th year, was held last Friday.
KSBW is both the NBC and ABC affiliate in Salinas owned by Hearst. The ABC affiliate, branded as Central Coast ABC, is broadcast on KSBW’s subchannel.
This year’s cash contributions were up 10% from last year and totaled more than $177,000.
In addition, almost 10,000 pounds of food and 7,000 new toys were collected by the station together with the Salvation Army to be donated to residents and children in need.
“Our Central Coast viewers continue to be amazingly generous,” said Joseph W. Heston, KSBW’s general manager.
“Nearly a 10% increase this year, on top of last year’s record-breaking 30% increase, is just stunning!”
The Salvation Army administers all donations of new and unwrapped toys, clothing, blankets, food, bottled water, and monetary help to local families in need.
Sponsors of KSBW Share Your Holiday include Salinas McDonald’s, Graniterock, First Alarm, California Giant Berry Farms and Heritage Bank.
