KOIN, Portland, Ore.’s CBS affiliate owned by Media General, is airing an hour-long, commercial-free special to benefit the Oregon Food Bank on Christmas Eve.
KOIN 6 Blue Christmas airs at 5 p.m. Christmas Eve and repeats at 7 p.m. on Christmas Day and highlights the Oregon Food Bank’s mission, needs and volunteers.
KOIN is the television partner of Oregon Food Bank and Waterfront Blues Festival, a benefit for the Oregon Food Bank that takes place every 4th of July weekend.
The program is the brainchild of Jamie Holmes, KOIN’s creative services director, who serves as the show’s producer. The station was looking for ways to extend awareness for the Waterfront Blues Festival and to encourage giving to the Oregon Food Bank during the cold winter months ahead.
“To create a quality program that really benefits the community is such a rewarding experience,” said Holmes.
“Everyone was so generous in their support of the project, especially the musicians. It was truly a collaborative effort.”
Viewers will be encouraged to make a donation to the Oregon Food Bank during the broadcast by going to koin.com/bluechristmas.
