New Orleans loves a parade.
To celebrate Mardi Gras during the two weeks leading up to Ash Wednesday, there are dozens of parades in neighborhoods all over the city.
And now another parade joins the list of annual parades in New Orleans.
WDSU, the Hearst NBC affiliate there, presented the first Allstate Sugar Bowl New Year’s Eve Parade last Thursday, New Year’s Eve, which featured new floats from Kern Studios/Mardi Gras World along with high school marching bands and dance teams.
It also included the marching bands from the two teams competing in the 82nd annual Allstate Sugar Bowl Classic, Ole Miss and Oklahoma State universities.
“WDSU was proud to step up and help make this new holiday event possible,” said Joel Vilmenay, WDSU’s general manager.
“Together with the parade organizers, we purposely set the starting time of the parade for mid-afternoon so it could be enjoyed both by people visiting our city and by our local viewers and their families.”
