Tropical islands have been popular settings for reality TV shows over the years.
Depending on the show, they can be remote, picturesque, inaccessible, beautiful, uninhabited, isolated, crowded, exotic, even dangerous.
The various premises of these island-based reality shows run the gamut from the plausible to the ridiculous.
In one show, couples were dropped on an island to live with a group of singles of the opposite sex, in order to test the strength of their relationships.
In another, brothers braved a deadly island curse to find hidden treasure.
In several, people are dropped on an island with only their wits as they struggle to survive, either alone or in groups. I’m guessing while the contestants look for food and water, the production crew retreats to a nearby hotel for the night.
Unmarried men and women have been isolated in exotic tropical destinations to film whatever might happen when young, single men and women are forced together on a deserted island.
There was a reality show about how weddings are planned and executed on a remote island.
And in one show, local princesses are followed as they cavort around the island, navigating tricky social settings as they search for a husband.
And now, a new reality show set on an island is about to come to a TV near you, with a premise not previously concocted — couples who want to end their relationships on a tropical island.
And the title of this latest must-watch reality show is, wait for it, Ex-Isle. Get it?
Tonight at 10 on WE tv, Ex Isle follows five couples as they attempt to end their relationship so they can find closure and hopefully move on to new healthy and loving relationships.
I’m sure that given enough time and imagination, each of us can come up with a fresh concept never before conceived that can take place on a tropical island.
I’ll be waiting for your suggestions.
