When it comes to modern conveniences, it’s hard to think of one that’s more essential to our daily lives than H2O. Or that is more taken for granted.
Like the song says: “You don’t miss your water until the well runs dry.”
Or in the case of Flint, until your water’s tainted with lead.
Reporting the facts, demanding solutions, standing with residents in the community and spearheading donations of money and clean water is what local television does best in a crisis like this.
And WDIV, Detroit’s NBC affiliate owned by Graham Media, is providing news coverage and rallying the community by hosting phone banks and delivering water donations.
WDIV’s consumer team have reported on how the residents are coping, how the crisis happened and what is being done to address it, both short- and long-term.
WDIV joined forces with Art Van Furniture and Catholic Charities of Flint to get a water donation drive started and to raise funds for the Child Health & Development Fund, to help the children of Flint with ongoing health problems.
Tomorrow night at 8, WDIV and ClickOnDetroit will air a live, hour-long special, Failure in Flint: Inside the Water Crisis, to examine the latest on the devastating health effects of Flint’s water supply and what the next steps will be to find solutions to this crisis.
“WDIV, Local 4 News, is dedicated to seeing the stories of Flint through until residents have safe tap water, the infrastructure is fixed and the policy makers ensure that this will not ever happen again,” said Kim Voet, WDIV’s news director.
