Public elementary, middle and high schools in New York City are hoping to cash in on an essay contest conducted by WPIX, Tribune’s CW affiliate.
Its Fuel My School initiative will donate $5,000 each to three winning school principals live on WPIX’s morning news.
Students, teachers and parents submitted essays in February explaining how their school makes a difference.
“School teachers work incredibly hard and often fund supplemental classroom supplies out of their own pockets,” said Rich Graziano, WPIX’s general manager.
“Our hope, through Fuel My School, is to help make a difference in the daily lives of NYC public school students by making it easier to obtain needed supplies.”
Judging begins this month.
