What is quality journalism? What are its ingredients?
In TV news, what does it look and sound like? Is it story-telling, great video, graphics, video editing? Is there a formula? How do we recognize it, learn from it, extend it?
Like any form of creative expression, award-winning TV journalism is subjective.
In the case of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, it’s the culmination of a judging process by television professionals around the country.
Judges are peers from local television stations, networks, cable programming services and independent production facilities who vote impartially and secretly.
At the end of the process, an Emmy Award is given to the submission with the most votes.
The only criteria is excellence.
Excellence in TV news journalism is worth sharing regardless of market size and location.
The New York Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences held its 59th annual awards gala last Saturday night.
NBCUniversal’s WNBC, WNJU and LX.TV took home a total of 14 Emmy® Awards. WNJU is Telemundo’s East Coast flagship and LX.TV is the lifestyle production arm of the NBC Owned Television Stations.
