WDSU, the Hearst NBC affiliate in New Orleans, won a national Sigma Delta Chi award from the Society of Professional Journalists for its documentary, Chronicle: Children of Katrina.
Chronicle: Children of Katrina tracked the impact of Hurricane Katrina on five young lives during and 10 years after the storm.
“I am always humbled by the dedication and pursuit of excellence demonstrated by our news team,” said Joel Vilmenay, WDSU’s general manager.
Chronicle: Children of Katrina won in the documentary category for Small Market Television Stations in markets 51-plus.
The Sigma Delta Chi Awards from the Society of Professional Journalists, started in the 1930s, promotes the free flow of information vital to a well-informed citizenry; works to inspire and educate the next generation of journalists; and protects First Amendment guarantees of freedom of speech and press.
