WNBC, the NBC O&O in New York, won two Regional Edward R. Murrow Awards in the large market television category for Region 11 which comprises New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania, the station announced.
WNBC’s live coverage of a gas explosion in the city’s East Village neighborhood earned the station a Murrow award in the Breaking News category.
And the station’s story focusing on which weather is worse, the cold or the heat, Mother Nature, Let Up, was recognized with a Murrow award as Best Feature.
Regional winners are automatically entered and advanced to the national Edward R. Murrow Awards competition, which will be judged in June.
