OK, that’s the last time I make that play on words.
But imagine airing 1,000 episodes of a locally-produced program. What program of any nature lasts that long?
WHO celebrates the 20th anniversary edition of SoundOFF this Sunday night at 10:35. WHO is the NBC affiliate in Des Moines, Iowa, owned by Tribune.
The hour-long special features the most memorable moments from the program’s first 999 episodes with Sports Director Keith Murphy — or at least the most memorable they could find. 20 years spans many different video formats, according to a statement from the station.
SoundOFF debuted in January of 1997 before Facebook, Twitter, PTI or any local sports talk radio shows. It was ahead of its time, and continues to evolve.
Though the focus has been sports and pop culture opinions, SoundOFF is also known for its irreverent, humorous and unpredictable moments.
“It’s quite an accomplishment for a local program to stay on the schedule for 20 years,” said Keith Murphy, WHO’s sports director and host of the program.
“It fills me with great pride that we’re able to beat up on canceled network reruns and infomercials.”
See what I mean about irreverent?
