A 50-year Cleveland weather phenomenon is expected to end its reign over the television airwaves tonight at 6 on Tribune’s Fox affiliate WJW.
Dick Goddard, the 85-year-old meteorologist who has been a fixture on the Cleveland weather scene for 50 years, is expected to announce his retirement during the 6 p.m. news on WJW, according to Cleveland’s newspaper, The Plain Dealer.
Checking Goodard’s Facebook page, there is the picture above that promises an announcement 50 years in the making.
Goddard, known for his penchant to promote animal welfare, rescue and adoption, had this to say on his Facebook page: “Gather all the four-foots and make sure you watch as I share a major announcement with you.”
“Helping the four-foots is my goal in life,” said Goddard in the article.
Although Goddard reportedly signed a contract extension in 2014, he has cut back on his his on-air duties in recent years. However, it’s doubtful he will completely sever his ties with the station that has been his home for half a century.
Look for Market Share to have more on this tomorrow including, hopefully, video of his announcement.

Here’s WJW celebrating Goddard’s birthday in February of 2015 with a frozen sculpture of his likeness.
