“After 16 years, how do you find a different way to promote a balloon fest partnership?,” wrote John Kukla, KDFW’s creative services director.
KDFW, the Fox O&O in Dallas, won the top spot in the Holiday/Special Event category, winning gold, at the PromaxBDA Local Awards last week at the PromaxBDA Station Summit in Las Vegas.
Kukla added it helps if “your traffic reporter sings, and doesn’t mind wearing overalls.”
Kukla said the station “shot the whole thing in three hours including driving around the city with our anchor playing harmonica!”
The guy playing the banjo is KDFW’s Chip Waggoner, the station’s traffic reporter and Evan Andrews, the morning meteorologist is the drummer.
“Chip and Evan do a lot of crazy stuff together, and we’ve nicknamed them Chevan,” said Kukla.
