Given the events over the past week,I had to share this story from Steve Hartman’s series, On the Road, which airs on the CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley.
The story originally aired in April but a friend of mine posted it on Facebook and it seemed timely. On Facebook, it has more than 4 million views.
In 2005, a white police officer arrests a random black man for drugs, a story the policeman totally invented.
“Basically, at the start of that day, I was going to make sure I had another drug arrest.”
And he put an innocent man in jail for four years until the crooked cop was caught and sentenced to jail himself.
Last year, because they both live in a small town, they ended up working together at the same café.
And ended up becoming best friends.
