Local TV stations in Cleveland have had months to prepare for the Republican National Convention that has taken over the city this week.
So what kind of special coverage are they offering to their local viewers to help them get through the convention and the disruption it brings to normal life there?
WEWS, the ABC affiliate in Cleveland owned by Scripps, is ready to help residents survive.
“We’ve been preparing our RNC marketing, digital, and news coverage strategies for many, many months,” said Dan Coyle, WEWS’ creative services director.
“So how do we position our coverage as different and unique and inspire audiences to choose WEWS, NewsChannel 5? One point of difference is our RNC Survival Guide.”
“That useful guide to all-things RNC is front and center as soon as you open our app or visit our website. We’ve been brainstorming ways and executing promotion to draw traffic to the Guide – most recently creating special graphics for Facebook and social posts dedicated to certain aspects of the guide, like road closures, transportation, which local businesses are open or closed or extending their hours, etc.”
I checked for an y important updates and found that hundreds of local bars will remain open until 4 a.m. during the convention.
“It also goes without saying that we’re updating Facebook cover images and looking for ways to generate engagement around buzz-worthy content.”
“And as the week moves forward, we’ll update an overall on-air coverage spot with the best visuals of the day to show how our team is on top of all RNC developments. Finally, we have creative ideas in our back pocket to support any scenario of disruption to the RNC. Hopefully it will be a smooth week and we won’t need to go there.”
