If broadcasting were a baseball team and you were trying to keep a scorecard as to which broadcast company bought which station in which market over the past year or so, you might want to write it down in pencil and keep plenty of erasers on hand.
Like KXVA, the Fox affiliate in Abilene, now owned by Tegna, but which used to be owned by London Broadcasting.
Yesterday, KXVA relaunched itself with a new logo, new set, new image and branding, and a brand new standalone website, www.Fox15Abilene.com.
KXVA had been sharing a website with its sister station KIDY, the Fox affiliate in San Angelo.
KXVA also moved two of its newscasts to new times.
I caught up with Justin Riggan, KXVA’s general manager late yesterday afternoon to ask how the relaunch was going. Understandably, given that his station was just hours away from a new newscast at 6 p.m., he didn’t have a lot of time to talk.
But I did manage to get a some idea of what was happening there and will circle back with Riggan and his CSD later this week to write a full report on all the changes there.
“Today’s the day,” said Riggan, “we’ve been working on this for four or five months. Our goial is the make this station a big player in the news industry in Abilene. So we moved the news from 6:30 to 6, and from 9 to 10 p.m. to go head-to-head and compete with the other news organizations.”
What has Tegna brought to the station since it took over?
“Lots of resources,” said Riggan.
Look for more about this developing story in Abilene later this week.
Here are a just a couple of the new news image and branding promos that started airing on the station yesterday.
