A few months ago, I saw a locally produced commercial on Facebook from WFIE, Raycom’s NBC affiliate in Evansville, Ind.. To be exact, it was on the Facebook feed of WFIE’s creative services director, Brando Ridge, a friend of mine from when we both worked at Nexstar.
The spot inspired me I to write about an important service that many local TV stations provide in their community — creating TV commercials for local businesses to help them succeed.
Not much is written about these efforts nationally although in their respective markets, this commercial production often wins awards, and the admiration of the businesses they advertise.
So over the past year or so, I’ve shared some stories about the invaluable service this video production adds to TV stations and their clients.
At WCTV, Gray’s CBS affiliate in Tallahassee, Fla., creative is key.
“The importance of creative is definitely under-reported,” said Heather Peeples, WCTV’s general manager.
The spot that initially moved me to write about this body of work is below. It’s a simple idea that resonates with everybody who loves donuts. And who doesn’t like donuts? So what this spot did was elevate the person who brings the donuts to the office to hero status.
This next spot for a jewelry store really captures the emotional connection that most women have with getting a diamond engagement ring.
I’m looking to share creative, memorable and effective local TV commercials that have been produced by stations across the country.
