Actually, not just one face, but many. In a series of promos about Hurricane Matthew, Tegna-owned WTLV and WJXX Jacksonville used their on-air talent to address the fears of viewers as the hurricane was approaching and to thank first responders after it passed.
In a note I received from Jeff Whitson, the stations’ director of sales, he said: “As Hurricane Matthew approached the first coast of Florida, the First Coast News promotion team produced a series of non-alarming, informative promos about preparing for the storm and our promise to keeping them informed.
“We heard a lot of really positive feedback about not taking a sensational approach to the storm promotion from our viewers.
“When the storm past, we also produced a series of promos thanking first responders for their important and tireless work dealing with the aftermath.
“This was a serious storm, no doubt, and I’m really proud of our teams’ coverage, and all the news organizations in town did a great job informing people and helping keeping them safe,” he concluded.
