During a live press conference carried by TV stations in Savanah, Ga., Georgia Governor Nathan Deal surprised viewers by singling out WTOC, Raycom’s CBS affiliate there, for its outstanding coverage during Hurricane Matthew.
But in the process, the governor also took a swipe at The Weather Channel, headquartered in Atlanta, for its lack of focus on how the hurricane was affecting its home state.
“It was unexpected,” said Larry Silbermann, WTOC’s general manager, “but deserved.”
Silbermann said the comments “reinforce the importance of local broadcasting during disasters.”
Here’s how the station treated the Governor’s comments on its Facebook page.
