WGHP, Tribune’s Fox affiliate in Greensboro-High Point, N.C., held an in-studio, 13-hour telethon to raise funds to help recovery efforts from damage done by Hurricane Matthew.
“We felt it was our responsibility to do what we could to help. The people of the Piedmont Triad are tremendously charitable, and we wanted to provide a way for our viewers to help,” said Jim Himes, WGHP’s general manager.
The station partnered with the Salvation Armies of Greensboro, Winston-Salem, High Point and Burlington for the telethon which raised $26,322.
“26,000 dollars is an incredible start and will make a great impact on many lives, but there is much more work that needs to be done. We encourage others to continue giving to the Salvation Army’s effort at http://give.salvationarmyusa.org/hurricane_matthew,” said Himes.
All money pledged via the phone bank will be processed through the Salvation Army’s national Hurricane Matthew relief fund, and distributed wherever aid is needed most.
