KARK Little Rock, Ark., “dominated election night coverage winning every quarter hour from 6:30 p.m. to the end of NBC’s coverage at 3 a.m.,” according to a note from Austin Kellerman, KARK’s news director.
“For the last four years, we’ve worked extremely hard to build the Your Local Election Headquarters brand.”
Kellerman is also news director for the Fox affiliate in Little Rock, KLRT, which is owned by Mission Broadcasting. KARK is Little Rock’s NBC affiliate owned by Nexstar.
Kellerman wrote that KARK’s 10 o’clock newscast was the highest-rated program, according to ComScore’s demo rating.
“Throughout the election season, we made political reporting a top priority. From hosting debates and forums to out-of-state series on medical marijuana to exposing issues in the election process, we positioned ourselves for these results.”
KARK’s 10 o’clock news had a 46% ratings increase compared to election night in 2012. KLRT’s 9 p.m. newscast also saw a 40% increase compared to 2012.
“For the last few years, we’ve made severe weather, big story coverage and political reporting our top priorities,” said Mike Vaughn, KARK’s general manager.
“We’re glad to see that’s making an impact with our viewers.”
