This past Monday, WFLA Tampa’s consumer reporter, Shannon Behnken, hosted a six-and-a-half hour phone bank that netted Tampa Bay residents more than $2.3 million of unclaimed cash, according to the station, Media General’s NBC affiliate.
The money is often from dormant accounts in financial institutions, insurance and utility companies, securities and trust holdings. Florida citizens have the right to claim their money any time at no cost.
“The volume of calls we received was unbelievable, proving once again that News Channel 8 is truly ‘On Your Side’,” said Andy Alford, WFLA’s general manager.
