In a direct response to the fatal shootings of two Little Rock toddlers, KARK and KLRT, the NBC and Fox affiliates in Little Rock respectively, launched a new anti-violence campaign called Victory Over Violence.
KARK is owned by Nexstar and KLRT is owned by Mission Broadcasting.
“Our newsroom grew tired of sitting back and covering these senseless crimes,” said Austin Kellerman, KARK’s news director.
“We decided we needed to be part of the solution.”
The goal of Victory of Violence will be to cover crime in a responsible manner and to be a resource for changing lives through improvements in education, jobs, mentoring and hunger.
Viewers started seeing components of the Victory Over Violence campaign in KARK and Fox16 newscasts last Sunday.
A social media town hall with the Little Rock School District was held earlier this week and in March, the stations will hold a telethon benefiting domestic violence non-profit Women and Children First.
