KRBK, the Fox affiliate in Springfield, Mo., owned by Koplar Communications, has an identity problem.
It seems no one knows who it is, or confuses it with other TV stations in town.
So the station created a 30-second spot that “confronted our situation,” said George Davis, KRBK’s creative services director.
“For years we have struggled getting viewers to know who we are in Springfield, Mo.,” said Davis.
“We took a chance and used our own commercial inventory to air this spot during our local break at halftime” of the Super Bowl, said Davis.
That avail during the big game could have gone for about $20,000, according to Davis. But apparently, it was worth it given the positive comments and feedback the station got on its Facebook page.
Jeff Houghton, a local writer, actor and comic who works at the station, is the spokesperson in this promo.
Davis says Houghton became an internet sensation when his Instagram Husband video went viral.
Here is the 30-second spot that aired in the Super Bowl and a Facebook video with added material.
