WCVB, the Hearst-owned ABC affiliate in Boston, is airing an hour-long special tonight at 10 examining the opioid crisis.
5 On: State of Addiction will take an in-depth look at the battle that’s going on every day in Massachusetts — from the streets with law enforcement and first responders, to the hospitals and rehabilitation centers that are dealing with the aftermath of addiction and overdoses.
During the special, WCVB will provide the phone number of the Massachusetts Substance Use Helpline for live phone-banks staffed by experts from the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, who will have information on referrals for recovery services across the commonwealth.
The program will also feature information on how to visit the Massachusetts Substance Use Helpline website.
5 On: State of Addiction will present many personal stories of people struggling to cope with addiction, the road to recovery and the potential long-term effects of this disease.
WCVB’s 5 On: State of Addiction special will also explore the issue of the large number of babies born each year who are dependent on opioids and take an in-depth look at the innovative approaches to tracking EMS responses to overdoses.
