KRON, Nexstar’s MyNetworkTV affiliate in San Francisco, received a regional Emmy Award in the Breaking News category from the Northern California Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS).
The award was for the station’s coverage of the Ghost Ship warehouse fire that killed 36 people, the deadliest fire in California since the 1906 earthquake.
“The KRON local news team was in full force when the fire erupted late Friday night,” said Aaron Pero, KRON’s news director, “providing local communities in the greater San Francisco-Oakland-San Jose region with some of the first on-location reports as well as live, local coverage in the forty-eight hours following the emergency event, including press conferences from local law enforcement officials and first responders.”
San Francisco/Northern California is one of the 19 chapters awarding regional Emmy statuettes.
Northern California is composed of media companies and individuals from Visalia to the Oregon border and includes Hawaii and Reno, Nevada. Entries aired during the 2016 calendar year.
