The Seattle Kraken, the National Hockey League’s newest franchise, will have 4 preseason games televised on KING and KONG in Seattle. KING is the NBC affiliate owned by Tegna and KONG is an independent station as part of a duopoly with KING.
The name Kraken, according to the team website, is from the Giant Pacific Octopus which lives in the waters of Puget Sound near Seattle.
KING announced coverage plans to live broadcast four pre-season Seattle Kraken games in September and October, strengthening the station’s commitment to local sports coverage.
KING produced two special programs tracing the quest to return an NHL franchise to Seattle.
Rise of the Kraken recaps the major milestones in the Seattle Kraken’s rise to become an NHL team in Seattle, a century after becoming the first American city to capture a Stanley Cup championship.
And Release the Kraken looks back on the birth of the new NHL franchise.

“Our commitment to delivering in-depth and exciting coverage of the Seattle Kraken and Climate Pledge Arena is shared by every member of our news and local programming teams, and we’re eager to bring that to the hockey community and beyond.”
