KNTV, branded as NBC Bay Area, the NBC O&O in San Francisco, is releasing a digital-only investigation into the many causes of California’s inflated housing market that leaves many people of the Bay Area priced out.
HOUSING: Overpriced, Overwhelmed, Over it, a for-part series began streaming on NBCBayArea.com, the NBC Bay Area App, on Roku, Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV and YouTube on May 24, with an episode released every day.
HOUSING: Overpriced, Overwhelmed, Over it! examines the role real estate investors play in the housing crisis, explains why California cannot build enough affordable housing, and reveals why some renters are paying market rate for apartments built with taxpayer-backed loans meant for affordable rentals.

“The housing crisis is a recurring theme in our daily news coverage,” says Stephanie Adrouny, KNTV’s VP of news. “It is one of the major problems facing the Bay Area. This investigation digs deeper into why it continues to worsen and looks for solutions for people who need housing in Northern California and all over the state.”
The year-long investigation includes interviews and insight from real estate investors, landlords, tenants facing eviction and exclusive interviews with California State Treasurer Fiona Ma and Ben Metcalf, the managing director of UC Berkeley’s Terner Center for Housing Innovation.
