After her 21-year-old daughter, Emily, died of an overdose, she has been outspoken about issues surrounding opioid addiction, starting a charity called Emily’s Hope.

Angela Kennecke, a news anchor and investigative reporter at KELO, Nexstar’s CBS affiliate in Sioux Falls, S.D., was inducted into the South Dakota Hall of Fame in May.
The South Dakota Hall of Fame Honors Ceremony is held every year to celebrate and recognize 10 outstanding individuals.
Kennecke is an award-winning broadcast journalist and an activist. Most recently, her reporting has focused on the growing opioid crisis after her 21-year-old daughter, Emily, died of an overdose.
She has been outspoken about issues surrounding opioid addiction and started a charity called Emily’s Hope, to eliminate the stigma surrounding addiction, get people into treatment and give families hope of recovery.
